Visa Brings Mobile Payment Wearables to PyeongChang 2018

As the mobile payments industry increasingly shifts from plastic to digital, new technology innovations from Visa delivers NFC-enabled wearables at the Winter 2018 Olympics.

Even though North American consumers have been slow to adopt cashless technology, mobile and wearable payment devices are projected to grow to nearly $95 billion by the close of 2018. Visa’s debut of wearable payment devices at the Winter 2018 Olympic Games may just give consumers the confidence to embrace this seamless and secure technology.

Visa, the exclusive payment technology partner at the Winter 2018 Olympic Games, has debuted three commercially available wearable payment devices.

NFC-enabled payment gloves, commemorative stickers and Olympic pins are allowing fans and athletes to complete seamless and secure payments with a simple tap at any contactless-enabled terminal.

Among the mix of alternate payment devices are contactless gloves, commemorative pins, and stickers. Consumers can choose from four customized lapel pins or eight limited edition adhesive designs that can be applied to belongings such as hats or jackets. Soohorang, the white tiger official mascot, is one of the eight stickers to select from. Guests can tap to pay at nearly 1,000 onsite vendors with any item in the array of funky, yet practical keepsakes.

Retail of these novelty items began on November 9, 2017 in Lotte department stores and online. Foreign attendees can purchase theirs when they arrive in Olympic Winter Game Superstores or through Visa vending machines on site. Want more details about Visa wearables?  Read More
